Then Comes The Flood by John Payne was an interesting book about a group of people who became friends and business associates because of a three-car accident that was caused by a reckless mistake. The book starts off with Megan thinking about the traumatic ordeal she went through when she was a teenager, and how she got passed it without anyone knowing about it. When the accident occurred, Megan was just caught in the middle of it. The police questioned Mark Jones about how the accident happened, but his side of the story seemed to be missing a few details. Megan worked with her best friend, Rochelle at St. Jude’s Hospital. Megan and Rochelle also ran an anti-abortion non-profit organization together where Rochelle’s sister, Cindy catered weekly meetings. Jack was the detective who was investigating the accident and he kept telling himself that something about Mark’s story was not completely clear to him. Megan and Kayla became acquainted after the accident and during Mark’s trial. Kayla admired Megan for the work that she did for St. Jude, and for the love that she showed the kids. Megan, Rochelle, and Cindy all became friends with Kayla. Megan and Cindy began to ask Kayla questions about God and her faith because she was a Christian. Megan’s life would be forever changed after this car accident.
I enjoyed reading this book because it showed how a car accident was able to bring people together. I liked how the author portrayed Kayla because no one else in her position would have handled that situation quite like she did. I think that the author made a point by showing how strong someone’s faith can be. The author had an amazing editor because there were fewer than five errors. My rating for this book is 5 out of 5.
