Review of Reflections: Words From the Soul
Reflections: Words From the Soul may be considered a shorter read than average in the book world, but it is definitely not short on content. Dan Babcock proves that an excess of words is not necessary in order to convey pivotal life lessons. With well chosen words, his insights and straightforward ways of expressing them make this book invaluable in its simplicity.
I believe the whole premise of Reflections: Words From the Soul to be about changing our perceptions, and by doing so potentially changing the entire outlook and trajectory of our lives. By viewing the world through a positive lens we can live a much more fulfilled, open-minded, and compassionate life. Dan Babcock has shared with us his insights on how to look for the lessons meant to be learned by consciously asking ourselves, “What can I learn from this situation or person?” By asking this question we can open up a whole different perception of the world around us. We have all been given the gift of choice and it’s up to us to make the conscious choice that determines our attitude regarding each situation. We can use the power of these choices in every moment of our lives.
Some of the topics Dan Babcock touches on happen in nearly everyone's daily lives and interactions, and some are major life events that occur only on occasion. Each chapter covers a completely different subject and can be read independently of the others, which is useful because you can choose to focus on what is relevant to you at that moment in your life. I found each chapter to be inspiring and thought-provoking, even those that didn't apply to me at that particular moment still gave me insights and ideas to use when or if the subject arises in the future. I found the chapter about the connection between the human body and the soul to be very intriguing because, even though there were many new revelations revealed to me throughout this book, the concept of allowing the human body and soul to coexist was an idea I had never pondered before. While there is a touch of religion sprinkled throughout, I felt it was very respectful and not at all sanctimonious.
I give Reflections: Words From the Soul a 5 out of 5 star rating not only for the exceptional editing, but because I feel it is an earnest and heartfelt treasure that could be beneficial to all who read it. I could feel the passion and love that Dan Babcock has toward his fellow humans and the world in each and every chapter. Ultimately, it is up to us to take these lessons and apply them to our lives and to the world.
