All BODY BAGS AND NO KNICKERS by Shawe Ruckus is a mystery and drama novel, that tells the story of what happens when newlyweds, Chance and Catherine, go to visit Chance’s family in China for their honeymoon. The trip became a huge turning point for Catherine; she learned that there were things she didn’t know nor understand about her new husband, other than his culture. The novel is slow paced and takes you on a journey focused on their everyday lives.

The thing I enjoyed the most about this novel was the dialogue between the characters. The author was able to capture the essence of a true conversation between friends, allowing the reader to feel like he or she is part of the conversation. I loved the Felipe character with his sharp tongue and witty remarks. The author was able to put the dialogue together, be it a character trying to change the conversation or join in on one. It was done in a way that would make one believe that he saw these people talk to one another and decided to write about them.

It is my opinion that words are a writer’s greatest weapon, and having an arsenal of them is good, but knowing when to use them is better. Shawe Ruckus failed to use this weapon to his full advantage, by using big words when common everyday words would have had more impact on both the reader and the sentence. This failure to capitalize on when to use certain words to add flavor to the novel, is the only thing I dislike about this book.

I would rate this novel 3 out of 5. I noticed an error, so I can say with full confidence that this novel is well edited; the score I gave above was not influenced by this in any way. I simply rated the book based on how much I enjoyed it. The reason for my score is simple: certain events made no sense and raised the question, why did he kill her?

I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys mystery and drama novels or someone who would love to read a slow-paced story. It’s hard to put an age limit to this book, but I would recommend it to those who are 17 and above.
