All Body Bags and No Knickers is a mystery novel by Shawe Ruckus that dives into the lives of a seemingly ordinary newlywed couple, Catherine Roxborough and Chance Yang, as they become acquainted with married life. Following their wedding in London, the newly married couple intends to spend their honeymoon in China and take the opportunity to visit several of Chance's relatives. Throughout the novel, the couple explore culture-rich areas on their journey (Bejing and Shandong) and they cross paths with several acquaintances from Chance’s past. Later, during the investigation of a triple homicide at an abandoned seaside location in Yantai, it was discovered that the newly married couple had encountered the victims while on their journey. Evidence from the deaths may implicate the Yang family. Catherine and Chance opt to conduct their own investigation to uncover the truth. To do so, they must revisit events that occurred more than ten years ago.

The novel delves into the backgrounds and family histories of the newlyweds, as well as their relationships with friends in London and family in China. This allows for a thorough exploration of their personal connections and ties within different social circles. This exploration is imperative since Catherine and Chance have merged from different worlds. Catherine is a young woman who was raised by her godfather in England. Chance was raised in China, in a blended family. As the couple spends time in Yantai on their extended honeymoon, they visit many local areas along coastal China, where secrets are unveiled regarding Chance’s childhood. Then, after an unfortunate accident happens, Chance and Catherine begin to uncover more information and piece together events that took place long ago. Will they be able to determine the truth or will they never know what happened?

The writing style is formal, yet this style does not detract too much from the storyline. The author skillfully keeps readers invested in the characters. This style, however, might be off-putting for some readers as the author uses quite a lot of large words and can be, at times, a bit wordy.

This book is written in British English, which may influence potential readers. I did not find a lot of grammatical errors in this book. However, the British spelling and usage of words may be difficult for some readers. The book has a slow progression of the storyline, which some may find difficult to stay interested. Some of the text is very complex. In addition, some of the story, especially the development of non-primary characters, could have been tightened without losing the meaning of the story.

In summary, I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s recommended for those who enjoy complex character and plot development, an informative storyline, with a slow burn in the mystery.
