"Reconfigurement: Reconfiguring Your Life at Any Stage and Planning Ahead" by E. Alan Fleischauer offers valuable insights into retirement planning, catering to a wide range of readers. As a seasoned financial advisor, Emil Alan has expertise honed over twenty years, making this book a valuable resource for those contemplating retirement.

One of the notable strengths of the book is its accessibility. Fleischauer uses straightforward language, ensuring readers with even basic educational backgrounds can grasp the concepts presented. This simplicity is helpful in demystifying complex financial topics such as income protection, disability insurance, and investment strategies. It makes the book a practical resource for anyone looking to navigate their financial future.

Finance is perceived to be a dry subject. But not in this book. Fleischauer made sure to pepper the book with jokes that bestow much-needed entertaining breaks in the narrative. Since I am a young reader, the jokes are quite funny to me. However, I doubt if an ideal reader of the book would feel the same. Nevertheless, the witty remarks do make it a pleasant read. The one about the Social Security Administration was especially delightful.

There are two reasons why I had to hold back a dashing five-star rating for this one. Firstly, Fleischauer dives into the history of policies and their origins. I agree it is informative as one should know what past events shaped the present. However, in this context, it seems irrelevant to me. It might not appeal to all readers as, including myself, as some may prefer a more concise focus on contemporary retirement planning strategies.

Another notable drawback is the absence of chapter titles. Although this may not hinder the reading experience of most readers, those who rely on chapter titles to navigate the content might find it a bit inconvenient. The need to revisit chapters for clarity can be quite time-consuming. I personally enjoy non-fiction material that is divided into titles since it helps me know when a certain section has concluded.

Besides these minor inconveniences, the book is worthy of a four-star rating. The conscious effort to accentuate the informative content with humor is praiseworthy. The book easily reflects the author’s dedication to delivering valuable insights and making the subject of retirement planning approachable.

This book is a treasury of wise counsel for those considering retirement planning. Reconfigurement is informative and exceptionally well-edited, ensuring a smooth and error-free reading experience. Whether you are approaching retirement or just beginning to contemplate it, E. Alan Fleischauer's book offers valuable guidance and a touch of humor to ease the journey toward a well-planned future.
