The experience of traveling with your sister may be joyful. It may also be exciting to consider meeting new people at a strange school and spending time with your grandparents. For Mary Grace, though, things go in a different direction. Mary Grace is horrified that her parents must go on a mission in distant Africa. She senses her parents have abandoned her and wonders if they genuinely love her. In contrast, her brother Donny looks forward to his vacation to California to see Ed and Lucky the Penguin.

Mary Grace's adjustment to her new school is a difficult task. Bullying has a harsh hold on her, which makes her challenges even more difficult. Will she be able to fit in and make new friends in her new environment? How will the Grandma Gang intervene to assist her in overcoming the suffering brought on by her tormentor? Join Donny and Mary Grace as they journey through this intriguing, mystery-filled story with the unwavering assistance of the Grandma Gang.

Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures by Catherine A. Pepe provides a wealth of knowledge about people with Down syndrome in an informative and entertaining way without ever coming across as preachy. It promotes the virtues of kindness and compassion and is a great educational tool for kids in elementary school. Additionally, it benefits young readers who might experience bullying or other difficulties at school. Mary Grace's intense affection for her brother is one of the book's most endearing elements. Even though she occasionally feels depressed, she works hard to keep those feelings to herself because she always puts Donny's happiness first. Her steadfast love for her brother deeply moves readers, leaving them with a lasting impression.

In addition to its compelling plot, the book explores critical social issues, such as bullying and the detrimental effects of stigmatization, in a way that will leave readers thinking. It highlights the incredible power of forgiveness and demonstrates how it can result in healing and constructive change. The book imparts essential lessons about the consequences of our actions and the significance of personal responsibility by tying together the characters' experiences. It inspires young readers to confront bullying by highlighting the value of treating others with kindness and compassion and standing up for what is right through relatable narratives and characters.

There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. Also, the book's editing was excellent and had no grammatical errors. As a result, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Young readers navigating the complexities of social dynamics and dealing with issues like bullying and stigmatization should read this book.
