After reading the book "Niching Up" by Chris Dreyer, my review is as follows: I find this book to be very educational, and a great learning experience on how to niche up in order to become professional in business. The author did a great job in enlightening me to the real facts about the advantages and disadvantages to niching up, and the pros and cons that outweighs the possibilities of being successful in business. These pros and cons do exist in reality, and we need to address them.

After learning about the fundamental truths of niching, I found out that when you do something that no one else is doing, you stand out. Knowing that the very definition of niching means it is limited to a specialized audience, the author lets us know that niching requires relationship building. The author points out, when you niche, you focus all your efforts on doing what is best to help your customers.

In this book, the author plans to educate his readers to the real facts about how the disadvantages of the cons can have an upside affect to niching that increases competition and not always that bad as it seems to be. The author writes, "To be successful in your niche, you need experience, passion, profit, and data," [p.29]. The author also shows us that instead of scarcity, niching up creates opportunities and abundance. He emphasizes that you can have less opportunity to make money, but in some cases, it actually helps you make money.

In my conclusion: I enjoyed reading about the author's ability and expertise in showing the readers how to discover their repeatable processes as they get more experienced in the niche. The author emphasizes the importance of learning more about your industry and customers in order to save valuable time. He writes about being more strategic in taking actions that have worked for one individual through experience and analysis. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 because the author presents a clearer picture of how the advantages outweighs the disadvantages of the pros and cons of niching up. I also rate this book a 5 out of 5 because the author actually practiced these techniques himself, rather than just writing about them. The author's intentions of writing this book, is to capture our minds into discovering the advantages of niching for ourselves: a greater reputation, improved ability to deliver results, and more valuable relationships. This is one of the best books to read if you are thinking of starting a business.
