Review of It's Hard to Be a Vampire
It's Hard to Be A Vampire by Viktoria Faust is a collection of short horror stories. Each one is unique and different, although the concept of vampires does re-occur. Some stories were intriguing while others fell flat. The writing was fantastic. The way the author put words together was seamless and the grammer and editing were obviously given a lot of attention.
The first story was "It's Hard to Be A Vampire."
This story was about an overweight girl's desire to become a vampire.
The second story was "Gallery of Horrors."
The second story is about an artist who creates dark, disturbing pieces that everyone seems to find revolting but somehow he's managed to hold an exhibition for them.
The third story was "The Painting Strikes Back," which is actually part 2 of the previous story.
This one is about one of the portraits, Emily, who is full of hatred for her painter for trapping her in this existence.
The fourth story was "Do Vampires Dream of Slaughtered Sheep?"
This one is about a vampire hunter. He was born to be a vampire hunter, protected against evil, with the ability to hear and smell them.
The fifth story was "Narcissus."
It's one of the shorter ones as it takes place within one night with only two characters. An attractive man and even more attractive woman. This was a strange story but it was good.
The sixth story was "Quietly They Rise From the Fog."
I thought this was the most interesting concept in the collection of stories but I wish it could have been developed more. This story was about a mysterious fog and the river it covered up.
The seventh story was "Behind the Door."
I don't know what was happening in this story. There was a door, scratching, bodies, fighting, inhuman creatures, and a strange main character who may or may not have been human herself.
The eighth story was "The Invisible Ink."
I think this was the shortest story. There was no plot. This one was about a writer who believed her ink didn't just disappear when it seemed to dry out.
The ninth story was "That Bloody Useless Bloodless Body."
I liked this one, sort of. It was intriguing, though not until near the end. It was about a writer who wrote about vampires and got fan letters from a fan that was very determined to get answers from him.
Each story had it's own unique storyline with different characters. There are instances of profanity, so I would recommend this book for mature readers who are interested in the horror genre.
I rate this 3 out of 5 stars.
