The issue of gender equality has long been a point of contention throughout the world. Severed Roots is an interesting, modern take on these struggles. In a world that women run, it's very nearly "heaven on Earth." As with countless other attempts at a perfect world, though, there are resistance and threats of destruction.

Nego Huzcotoq has written a beautiful piece of controversial work. He touches on the different feelings coming from both women and men about how the society around them has torn them down, as well as how family should be viewed and portrayed. It's a story of human emotions, human flaws and societal standards. It’s not like other dystopian fictions where everyone bands together to throw over a corrupt government, but instead a depiction of loneliness and the struggle of being very few among many. As an author, Nego did an exceptional job of bringing attention to the struggles women face, while also bringing up issues of focusing solely on one gender.

I am choosing to give this book four out of five stars. The only problem I found with it was that I felt it took a while for me to get into it. It was slightly difficult to be able to envision a world so different from our current one, something I think is marginally far-fetched to many people. By the end, though, I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails and waiting for the ending I hoped would come.

This book appeared to be professionally edited, only managing to find one mistake throughout the whole thing. There were no swear words and few mentions of adult activities, but the topic of the book itself may be triggering to some readers.

Overall, I found it an interesting read that left me hungry for more. I would definitely recommend it to fellow readers in my life and you should too!
