“Why Did Buffy’s Fur Go Flat?” by Erin Hill and Dr. Russ Hill is a children’s book that narrates the story of Jade and her cat, Buffy. Jade and her cat lived on a rocky cliff. Her cat had sweet amber eyes and loved to play. Every time Jade went to sleep, Buffy was always right by her head, lying on her pillow. One morning, when they both awoke hungry, Jade went to Buffy to give her food, but she was just lying flat without any movement, not playing, and not even purring. What happened to Buffy? Read this book to find the answer.

This 36-page book is short and straight to the point. It also contains valuable lessons that children will learn from. I like how the author effectively employs colorful illustrations that enhance comprehension.

A key takeaway from this book is the connection between our diet and our well-being. The story underscores that consuming larger fish like tuna involves ingesting other creatures within their diet, such as flying fish, squid, eels, and shrimp. Additionally, the smaller prey of tuna, including plankton and seagrass consumers, can fall ill due to pollution, like water pollution from dirt, oil, and sand entering the sea. These animals can also get sick from air pollution because toxins like mercury enter the water from the air, making the water unhealthy for sea life and human beings.

This book also discusses how everyone can make sea life safe to eat by keeping the water clean and reducing air pollution. It teaches that everybody can take part in making the ocean clean by cleaning up litter near the ocean.

There is nothing I dislike about this book. It was also exceptionally well-edited. Therefore, I would rate it five out of five stars. I would recommend this book to children, as they will find the story interesting and learn a valuable lesson about how they can contribute to the cleaning of the ocean. Parents will also enjoy this book, as we all have a part to play in making the ocean clean and safe.
