The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid by Gary Robinson is a fiction novel about destructive paths taken by two people. The novel contains three parts with different stories and connections at the end. The first part is about Duke. It describes his journey from the time he decided to join the circus group to battling addictions. He was a child when he ran and joined the group. The second part describes Gary Robinson's life. He was a bright student in high school and graduated with good grades, which landed him in college. His life changes when he makes bad choices that land him in trouble. The third part is about mentoring after Gary and Duke meet.

The story was educative and offers creative insights to many people. Gary and Duke engage in drug addiction which lands them in trouble. Gary loses his bright future due to drugs, teaching people the harmful effects of becoming an addict. I admired the flow of the story. Gary and Duke have parallel lives, but fate plays its part, and they finally meet. It was admirable how the story went with the two meetings. The book's structure was great. The author divided the book into three parts, each playing an important role in narrating the overall story. The book's structure helped develop the characters since each part talked about a specific character, providing more details.

I have nothing against the novel. It was enjoyable and contained a moral lesson.

I rate The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid by Gary Robinson five out of five stars. The book was exceptionally edited since it had no errors. It educates youths and people joining drug addiction on the disadvantages of addictions. The flow of the story was great. Duke and Gary have parallel lives, but fate makes them meet. All the circumstances that led to that were genius. Finally, the book's structure was great. It helped develop the characters. I gave the book a perfect rating because of all these good things, and it had no negative aspects.

People struggling with addictions may find the book helpful. It uses Duke and Gary's lives to show how bad addictions can be.
