E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom by Dorothy May Mercer pits Americans against North Koreans. Kelly was just an ordinary woman. She was in Honduras to celebrate her honeymoon with her husband, Tom Turbulo. Tom worked as a sergeant for the Carson City Police Department. Their stay in Honduras had been glorious thus far. It was to going to change dramatically. That one fateful day, Tom was out with the dive team. They were exploring the corals, enjoying life. Kelly opted to go to town to do some shopping instead. She made the unfortunate (or fortunate) choice of stepping inside an empty gift shop. The emptiness should have deterred her. Inside, she discovered a high-tech lab that was run by terrorists. She was spotted by a big man. She barely made it out alive. She was now worried that the terrorists were after her. She was even more worried that they would succeed with their plans to destroy America. Will they be stopped in time?

The story had a lot of potential to be great. Pitting Americans against North Koreans wasn't the most original idea out there. It worked by opening up the storyline to many possible scenarios. The main antagonist of this story was a tough woman named Colonel Rhee Su-jin. She was the perfect face of hostility and evil. She was beautiful and sexy. She was also deadly.

The main problem with the story was Kelly. She wasn't Colonel Rhee's match in any way. I'd even say that Tom, despite being a sergeant, wasn't much of a match for the colonel. Agatha, Sharon, and Steve were a great trio. They all had the chops to face such an intimidating character and fight successfully. The story would have been stronger if it placed Kelly and Tom in other roles other than the ones they played in the story. They didn't have to be part of the actual action. They could have left the fighting and scheming to the other characters. They didn't have to get involved in the fighting.

With that said, I truly enjoyed the story. It was exciting. It was a strong thriller. It was also edited exceptionally well. I'm only taking away one star from my rating because I didn't think Kelly and Tom were placed in the correct roles. With more skills, they could have been a match for the North Koreans. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

I recommend the story to readers who enjoy thriller novels. Those with a penchant for stories about terrorism and dictators will love this one as well.
