Review of The Unfakeable Code®
When I started reading The Unfakeable Code® by Tony Jeton Selimi, I expected to find, at the very least, the usual self-help book. To my greatest surprise, I found myself reading about computers, high- and low-level programming languages, debugging, and memory leaks, to name a few. But the author is not setting you up to reconfigure a physical computer but an organic one—your brain. The Unfakeable Code is a collection of five core principles (or programmable codes) designed by the author to unlock your authentic (Unfakeable) self and achieve your true potential. The premise of The Unfakeable Code® is that when people feel unsatisfied in many areas of their lives, it is likely because their multiple fake personas and external factors constrain their true personalities and potential. The author supports his claims with clinical data collected over the years of his profession, although he does not include references to these studies. The five principles of The Unfakeable Code® are: Take Off the Mask; Your Soul is Waiting; Stop Working to Survive; Rewire Your Existential Models of Reality; Disarm Your Emotions; Stop Giving Your Power Away, Own It, and Master the Virtue of Loving Prudently.
I love the seemingly original concept of fake personas who hijack our thoughts to protect us from what they perceive as threats to our authentic selves. In a social setting, we put on a suitable mask or persona, which might ensure our short-term safety and happiness but jeopardize our long-term success in building meaningful relationships at home or work. Hence, for every situation where you feel inadequate, judgmental, or wary, recognize the corresponding fake persona, disarm it, and achieve your maximum potential. The idea of a hidden authentic self, present in each of us, is thought-provoking and deserves further exploration.
I also loved principle 5: Master the Virtue of Loving Prudently. Its primary purpose is to help people in romantic relationships. The author discussed many examples that many people would relate to, including practical solutions. For example, when people get hurt in previous relationships, they tend to be wary of future ones. They put on their tough-love persona and are unyielding and insincere in love. This situation prevents them and their partner from being as fulfilled as they might be.
The introduction was not well written. It was unnecessarily long, with redundant themes restated in different wordings; most of the book had this issue. In the introduction, the author oversold The Unfakeable Code® by advertising all its grand merits instead of allowing readers to come to their conclusions.
Although the author included exercises to help readers practice the five core principles, I don’t think those were sufficient to help readers achieve the kind of breakthrough the author advertises. The fact that the author repeatedly prevaricated substantiates my point. Furthermore, the author often injected third-party services (consultation services, for example) that may complement this book, suggesting the five rules may be inadequate.
This book is poorly edited, with multiple grammatical and typographical errors. These errors range from minor extra spacing in words to incomplete sentences, leaving the reader guessing what critical information they are missing. Each code or principle should have been in its chapter, probably starting on a new page.
There are no instances of profanity, sex, or violence. I recommend this book to people of all religious backgrounds and ages who want to live and love authentically.
Overall, I rate this book three stars out of five. I deducted one star for the poor editing of the book and another for the author’s unengaging, cryptic writing style, principally characterized by repeated prevarication.
