In the book American Dream?, Jeoung Lee masterfully combines the themes of immigration, discrimination, resilience, and the pursuit of the American dream. Through skilled storytelling and a rich historical backdrop, the author delves into the challenges faced by immigrants seeking refuge in the United States, while exploring the complexities of identity.

The book also offers a unique perspective on significant events in Korean history, such as President Park's assassination and General Jun's self-declaration as president, which led many Koreans to seek safety in the US. The story revolves around Hanel Kim, a nurse born in South Korea, whose life unfolds during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hanel's journey intertwines with her brother Daehan, who fled South Korea due to his involvement in the fight against General Jun's administration. The enduring bond with her childhood friend Eungi highlights the power of friendship across borders, while the narrative delves into themes of separation, resilience, and endurance.

The book skillfully weaves together fiction and the realities of hospital administration during the pandemic, highlighting the coping mechanisms of healthcare institutions and the discrimination faced by foreign nurses. Hanel, a non-native nurse in America, courageously confronts discrimination and racism, showcasing her unwavering commitment to her nursing oath. The narrative expertly explores Hanel's past and present, providing a deep and authentic understanding of her transformative journey. The book also offers valuable insights into the challenges immigrants face, including assimilation and discrimination.

The reason why I do not dislike this book is because it is a true gem that effortlessly captures the essence of the immigrant experience, while also offering a window into the broader historical context. Jeoung Lee's exceptional storytelling skills and the book's ability to elicit empathy and understanding make it a must-read. I recommend this book to anyone interested in themes of identity, resilience, and the pursuit of the American dream. It is concise yet highly informative, and it resonates deeply with readers, leaving a lasting impact.

This book lingers in the mind even after reaching the end, thanks to its compelling storytelling, intricately crafted characters, and profound wisdom. It stands as a testament to the author's exceptional talent, which is why I gave it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
