The Commander by Dan E. Hendrickson is an engaging storytelling that will transport you on an incredible journey full of action, adventure, and thrilling moments navigating the tricky waters of loyalty, values, and moral dilemmas.
With a writing style characterized by notable attention to detail, vivid and precise descriptions will transport you into a world where the recently promoted Commander Jacob Edwards takes the reins of the totally reconditioned Hamilton Class Cutter First Responder. Edwards will have to utilize all his experience and intelligence to fulfill not only his mission with the Coast Guard but also the secret mission that has been entrusted to him for more than three years as a member of a secret task force.
The Caribbean becomes the ideal spot for a war of economic interests where the greediness for power will benefit from the demons that plague the protagonists, feeding a network of terror that seems limitless and indestructible.
I find captivating how the author skillfully describes the military tactics, weaponry, technology, and the hand-to-hand confrontations that take place along the story. Doing so increases the credibility of the narrative and enhances the overall experience, causing me to feel like another actor within the scene as only movies use to make me feel. Moreover, the author masterfully presents the character of Jacob Edwards, a committed, loyal, and brave man who achieves the balance between duty and empathy. He is a genuine leader to his family, crew, and paramilitary team that will always respect and take into consideration others’ ideas and talents bringing out the best in each individual.
I believe this book deserves a perfect rating of five out of five stars. It offers enough action to satisfy those looking for adrenaline, and deep characters and relationship development for those attracted to human dramas. It serves as a stand-alone tale but also fits masterfully with the Last Enemy Series. It only remains to say, take a seat in your favorite place and prepare to immerse yourself in a brilliant adventure from start to finish.
