Orcas Forever by Marie-Paule Mahoney takes readers on an enthralling and eye-opening exploration of the captivating world of killer whales. This meticulously researched book offers a comprehensive and thought-provoking examination of these magnificent creatures, their complex social structures, and the numerous threats they face in today's world.

Mahoney's writing style is both engaging and accessible, making Orcas Forever an enjoyable read for both enthusiasts and newcomers to the subject. With a perfect blend of scientific information and personal anecdotes, she seamlessly weaves together the story of orcas, their evolution, behaviour, and the ecological challenges they confront.

This book was a delightful insight into the wonderful and amazing world of the orcas. It grabbed my attention from the start with glorious illustrations showing the orcas in a variety of backgrounds, chasing, feeding etc., all very informative. I read about the greetings they would show each other, how they feed and how they sleep (I found out that they sleep on top of the water!). Even the heartbreaking story of how Tahlequah tried her best but couldn't prevent the death of one of her babies, carrying it around her neck for days, made me think of how these huge mammals are so alike to us humans. At the end of the book, the section with actual facts about the orcas was very informative and interesting.

One of the book's strengths is its emphasis on the social dynamics and intelligence of orcas. Mahoney delves into the intricate relationships within orca pods, highlighting the tight-knit bonds and sophisticated communication methods that have earned them the title of "killer whales." Through captivating narratives and scientific studies, she showcases their remarkable intelligence and the profound emotional connections that exist among these highly social animals.

This was a great story book to read and I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5.
