‘Morrow’s Con’ is the most witty, exciting, and intriguing book I’ve ever read. Written by Earl James, who began his writing career in his sixties after being a small business owner and had over the years educated himself on human nature, is a book following Morrow - an unusual man who uses his skills as a reluctant con artist to make a living - through his journey of carrying out an opening gambit, which he tried to fight fate against, but fate always wins.

Diving into this book I anticipated the typical conman play and I’m happy to say it exceeded my expectations. First of all I have to talk about our main character here, Morrow - extremely intelligent yet fairly human; what makes him interesting is his gray aura, neither a saint nor evil, he’s quite the mysterious man. Every time I think I’ve figured him out or at least successfully traced his next steps I was badly proven wrong; he was taught by an older mentor, Edwin Harlow, all he needed to know about human nature and how to get a mark to do whatever you need them to do, and has been graciously following in his footsteps during this game. The plot was extremely well-written, perfect pacing, just the right amount of tension, great dialogues, wonderful characters, and most importantly a fantastic showdown that will leave you at the edge of your seat. I genuinely couldn’t predict the direction of the plot up until the very last chapter! It also taught me a few valuable things about reading people and understanding the way they think and the actions they take. Overall it was an exquisite read filled with nothing but anticipation and excitement.

I rate this book a full 5/5, I sincerely enjoyed every page of this book and definitely recommend all fans of mystery, crime, thrillers, wits, and suspens to give this book a try. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
