Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath is a historical fiction that tells the story of Zack Martin, a 17-year-old farm boy from Vermont who enlists in the Navy and is sent to Vietnam during the war. He becomes a skilled crew member and gunner but returns home to face the physical and emotional toll of exposure to Agent Orange, a herbicide used in the war. The book sheds light on how the United States Department of Veterans Affairs cheated over 200,000 Vietnam Navy sailors out of compensation for Agent Orange-caused illnesses.

The author unflinchingly addresses the lies told by the chemical company Monsanto and the poor treatment of Vietnam veterans by the VA. The story is divided into three parts, detailing Zack's adventures in the Navy, ship life, and the aftermath of the war. Ultimately, Zack and his girlfriend Tally must confront unexpected obstacles that threaten to shatter their dreams.

This historical fiction book is written by Randy Miller, and it demonstrates his impressive ability to describe scenes in a detailed manner, allowing readers to feel the emotions of the story. The narrative is exciting and enjoyable, and the characters come to life through their expressiveness, which adds an honest and real feel to the book. The novel is well balanced between historical and romantic elements, and the language used is vivid. The book sheds light on the injustice done to soldiers during the Vietnam War and provides a better understanding of the history of that time.

The author's courage to write about this subject is appreciated, and the book serves as a voice for those whose voices were suppressed at that time. Through the eyes of Zack Martin, the author gives a detailed view of life in the Navy during the Vietnam War, describing the inner workings of the system and the sacrifice that goes into carrying out a mission. The book is written in a clear, expressive voice that can be easily followed by those with no military experience or background.

This book is amazing. I would give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars for how engaging the storyline is. The author's ability to describe scenes and emotions in a detailed and vivid manner made the story engaging and relatable. The book was also exceptionally edited. I did not find any errors while reading it, which made reading it more exciting because there were no breaks in the flow. It contains some mature contents, so I would not advise anyone below 16 to read it. I would recommend it to anyone interested in history or seeking to learn more about the Vietnam War.
