Review of Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise
Entanglement - Quantum and Otherwise by John K Danenbarger is a heart-wrenching, captivating story from beginning to end. How would you react if you found out about your mother’s interesting past? This is the situation Geena Nuss has to deal with when she receives some devastating news in the form of a letter from a long-time family friend, Joe. Along with the news, there is also a glimpse into Geena’s mother Beth’s past. Needless to say, Geena is surprised by what she finds out about her mother.
The story transports the reader into the past, when Beth was a young woman working as a prostitute. She was 16 at the time, and her life was not going very well. During this time, she met Joe, who became a dear friend who rescued her and helped her through some tough times. Beth and Joe continued with their lives, helping each other out. She then got married and eventually had a son, who is an interesting character on his own. The characters have interesting lives that intersect from time to time. They are connected and entangled, even though they have separate lives.
This was one of the darker stories I’ve read recently. The characters are dark and flawed and they make several human mistakes. The author did a very good job of giving each of these characters distinct attributes that make them even more realistic. The author also did a good job with the time-jumping aspect of the book. The transitions between the present and the past are smooth, and easy to follow. I liked the structure of the story as well as the characters and even though they had done some bad things I still wanted to root for them. There is nothing about this book i did not like.
The book contains some dark as well as light themes. Some of the lighter themes in the book include love, family, friendships, and romance, where several of the characters in the book fall in love. Some darker themes include underage prostitution, death, and murder.
This book was a definite 5 out of 5 stars for me, as I genuinely enjoyed reading it. I am also giving it this rating because it was exceptionally well-edited and I did not find any grammatical mistakes. It was a moving story that did not mind diving into some of the darker aspects of human nature. I would recommend this book to any adult looking for an indulgent book with some very gritty aspects.
