Shannon Duncan's book, Coming Full Circle: Healing Trauma Using Psychedelics, recounts the author's journey towards healing and self-awareness. In his book, Shannon Duncan provided a compelling insight into the nature of psychedelics and their impact on the human psyche. The author explained that these substances are hallucinogens that induce non-ordinary states of consciousness. According to Duncan, psychedelics have three primary uses: recreational, expansive, and medicinal. The author draws from personal experience to share the insights and clarity he gained from each of these uses. Additionally, Duncan shed light on the various medical psychedelics available, such as MDMA and psilocybin mushrooms, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the extent of their efficacy.

Shannon shared his background of suffering from childhood abuse and emotional neglect and how it had a significant impact on his life. He struggled to find healthy outlets for his emotions and often felt disconnected from reality, unable to give or receive love. While his initial experience with psychedelics was recreational, a friend eventually encouraged him to try them for medicinal purposes. Through therapy and medical work, Shannon was able to confront his repressed emotions and gradually heal. The author emphasized the importance of educating oneself about psychedelics and involving medical professionals who are familiar with one's medical history since these substances can have varying effects on different individuals.

The book was an enlightening and informative read that delved deeply into the therapeutic applications of psychedelics and their effects on the mind. It was a distinctive book that provoked thoughtful reflection. One aspect I appreciated was its focus on often-overlooked issues such as bullying, neglect, and emotional unavailability, which can contribute to long-term mental health problems. The book expanded my understanding of mental illness and challenged my previous assumptions. The author demonstrated a profound knowledge of the subject matter and provided valuable insights in clear language. I found the book easy to comprehend, and it kept my attention throughout its entirety.

There is nothing about this book that I dislike. It effectively underscores the significant impact that one's mental state has on their overall well-being and stresses the positive changes that can result from emotional and mental liberation. The book frankly examines the harmful effects that trauma, abuse, and depression have on society. Furthermore, the book introduces an unconventional therapeutic method for addressing these delicate mental states with the use of psychedelics, substances that are known to stimulate the mind.

I gave the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to its relatability and educational value. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I highly recommend this book to medical professionals and individuals with an interest in alternative medical practices.
