Cynthia and Dan by Dorothy May Mercer is a political and love story with plenty of tension, romance, and thriller elements. It is a powerful illustration of cyber risks and how computer users can save or destroy lives.

The story takes place in Washington, DC, and features a woman named Cynthia, who works as a senator’s personal bodyguard and undercover security chief. Cynthia is a strong, independent woman who helps combat cyberterrorism. Despite this, she occasionally exhibits extreme naiveté and reacts excessively emotionally. While the nation’s capital is under lockdown after a drone landed on the White House grounds, she assumes the role of the senator’s receptionist and is completely taken by surprise by a dashing, mysterious man. Cynthia is seduced by his charisma when he presents himself as Sky Eastman and cajoles her into accompanying him to a coffee shop. After a private exchange, she starts to question if Mr Eastman is as mysterious as he seems. When her ex-boyfriend, Dan, starts to show more and more possessive behaviour toward her, she has more reason to be suspicious. Sergeant Dan of the Fairfax Police Department and the enigmatic Sky are Cynthia’s two potential suitors. However, can Cynthia juggle her two careers and her love life?

The plot’s concept appealed to me. I liked how it moved along fairly quickly and had an intriguing idea. I was drawn into the plot’s suspense by the author’s skilful use of explosive twists, and I was left reeling when I learned about an unexpected turn of events. This novel’s popularity was greatly influenced by this literary device. Every time it resolves a riddle, another one arises, and once that mystery is resolved, a new one arises. Except for the supernatural, this book is nonstop action and spans all genres. I was very impressed by the author’s thorough investigation into the specifics of the characters’ occupations. It is impressive that the author managed to include them without making the narrative challenging for the typical reader to follow.

I disliked nothing about this book, seeing that the narrator did a good job of depicting each character’s unique personality and creating a good contrast between them all. I would recommend this book to readers who appreciate mysteries, suspense, and thrillers, particularly those with a political twist.

I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because it gives readers the chance to be fully immersed in the suspenseful story. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free. I would love Part 2 of this book.
