Review of Dagger's Destiny
Linnea Tanner has cast a spell in her book, Dagger's Destiny, the second book in the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. While the first book in the series, Apollo's Raven, sets the stage for the story, Dagger's Destiny stands on its own and will have readers transfixed from start to finish. If you are looking for a thrilling historical fantasy full of violence, sex, and ancient rituals, look no further. The forbidden love affair between Princess Catrin and Marcellus is just one of the many exciting elements readers will encounter in this tale. Despite their circumstances, the lovers are determined to be together, risking everything for their love. Along the way, readers will meet a host of intriguing characters, including King Amren, who beheaded his wife, Queen Rhan, for treachery and was cursed to die a horrible death by a druid.
Catrin, the daughter of King Amren, is the book's central character. She is a powerful druid warrior who does not shy away from danger. Her strength and courage testify to the author's skill in creating a dynamic female protagonist who is more than just a pretty face.
One of the things that impressed me about this book is the author's writing style. Her attention to detail is impressive, and the plot is masterfully developed. The imagery in the book is vivid and rich, painting a picture of the world and immersing readers in the story. Tanner's research of the ancient Roman and British cultures is evident in the book, and her commitment to historical accuracy is commendable. The book cover is stunning and perfectly captures the essence of the story. It's the kind of cover that would make me pick up the book and read the blurb without a second thought. I like the book's cover.
However, I must warn readers that the book contains scenes of rape that are graphically described. While they serve to further the plot, they can be triggering for some readers. Apart from this negative aspect, I did not dislike anything in the book.
Despite this flaw, Tanner's Dagger's Destiny is a well-crafted and engaging piece of historical fiction. The editing is exceptional, and the pacing is spot on. The story is filled with magic, adventure, and suspense, making it a page-turner from start to finish. The reasons mentioned above are why I rated the book 4 out of 5 stars.
I recommend Dagger's Destiny to anyone who loves historical fiction with a touch of fantasy. The book is a must-read for lovers of ancient Roman and British cultures, as Tanner does an excellent job weaving historical events and customs into the story.
In conclusion, Linnea Tanner has created a world that is both exciting and terrifying, with characters that are flawed and relatable. Her writing style is captivating, and her attention to detail is impressive. Despite the graphic scenes of rape, Dagger's Destiny is a book I recommend to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted tale full of adventure, magic, and romance.
