Terms of Service written by Craig W. Stanfill is a very intriguing science fiction story of a young adult named Kim who was born and raised in a time of control and order. Humans have created separate companies run by Artificial Intelligence to control all aspects in a human’s life to “help” them to survive and grow after the turmoil. All forms of individualism are removed including a person’s gender which has become a big topic in society today. I cannot even imagine not being able to choose the person I want to be with or having the refrigerator choose what meal I am going to eat. Although Kim wants to follow the order she somehow feels different and her determination leads her down a path she didn’t even know existed, how can you say no if you don’t even know what you are saying yes to?

Some people may find it a little drawn out at times because the author goes to great lengths to draw a complete picture as if an illustration on a page. I really like how when he is describing a room you feel immersed in her surroundings as if you are there. He really pulls on a lot of how society today is becoming, everyone immersed in technology from the time they wake till they sleep, and so worried how others see them and how many “likes” they get on their posts. It really does seem like we could, in the future, go in the direction of this storyline.

I don’t really have any negative points to mention other than the book ended and I wanted to find out more about district 33.

I would give this book a five out of five stars, for the immersive feel and it makes you think of things that are going on in the world at this time. A big aspect in the book is gender, control, and computer intelligence. It was interesting to read how a society could become so ordered and how so many people just fall in line with what is expected/trained into them to believe or feel but still Love and emotions can not be fully eradicated even if it means total personal destruction. The book was well thought out, well laid out and professionally edited.

I would recommend this book to a 20+ reader who enjoys fiction books about futuristic events. It was a fun read but there were some explicit situations that would not be good for younger readers.
