Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Galen Bray was from the Land of the Princes. He was eight years old when the war of the Princes began. All his life lived in a land full of greed, poverty, and power-hungry monarchs. He had always desired a better life from himself. Until one day, he finally received the required papers from his uncle to go to Voulhire. Even saying that the kingdom of Voulhire is full of possibilities and affluence is an understatement. His uncle's dying wish was for him to take over his business as the steel forge in Magnum Caelum.
An era of prosperity has arrived in the lovely kingdom of Voulhire, ruled by King Wilhelm. In the capital city Soulhire, one can hear children laughing and people goofing around. The danger posed by a strong mage (Dalehei Meldorath) that only King Wilhelm and his advisors appraised of lies beneath all the prosperity and festivities. Protecting the kingdom from a mage and keeping a watch on those who challenged him has become more important to the king.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the We are Voulhire series. Anyone who reads this fantasy and science fiction adventure novel will be enthralled. The Voulhire map that appears at the beginning of the book helped me get a sense of where the nation and its towns are. I also liked how the author divided the book into sections that concentrated on specific people and the events occurring around them.
Particularly Lord Eldus, I enjoyed this book's cast of personalities. He wed Charlotte, with whom he has two children. (Isla and Marshus.) The new Lord of Hillport was named Lord Eldus. It was interesting to learn how, as a family intended to affect change in Hillport. They had a sincere desire to make the town better and assist the community in overcoming its troubled history.
This book's storyline was also satisfying because of the various perspectives. I applaud the author's imagination and originality. The author's writing style is excellent, and it increased my vocabulary. This novel's plot is intriguing and full of twists, humour, and anticipation. It made me like it even more. There is a reference guide at the end of the book. It includes definitions for the word and phrases used in the book.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. I believe the book was well-edited. The author spoke in clear and simple terms so that any reader could understand the plot and the concepts emphasized. I, therefore, rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to people who love science fiction and fantasy books.
