Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants by Caleb J. Boyer is the story of two teenage boys named Matthew and Ryan. One minute they are playing video games at home and the next minute they wake up on a deserted island confused on how they got there and even a little confused on who they are. At first, they wonder if it is all a dream, but they quickly realize it is not a dream. The two boys will have to overcome all the challenges, puzzles, and traps the island throws at them. They have no food, no water, no supplies and their friendship will be tested. Will they be able to survive all the island throws at them?

I found a couple of things I thought was positive about the book. The first one being that it has a great message on what true friendship really is. I also liked how the book gave equal parts of both of the boys, displaying both of their personalities, fears, likes, dislikes etc. The book is packed with tons of action and twist and turns that keep you wanting to read more.

There was also a couple aspects of the book I didn't like. One of them being that the storyline was very similar to that of many popular action movies. I would read a part of the book and think, "Didn't that happen in the Hunger Games movie?" Another thing I didn’t really like about the book was that most of the action scenes and dialogue between the two boys was written more for the younger generation. Your able to tell that the book was written by someone who’s younger.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars . I gave it 3 stars because although the book has a great story line, the maturity of the book was meant for younger readers more than it is for adults. I didn’t give it 2 stars because I did enjoy the message behind what true friendship really is and I do believe the author did a good job on this book for his age. I didn’t give the book 4 or 5 stars because of the negatives I mentioned above.

I would recommend this book to young adults, children ages ten to twelve or someone who enjoys reading action packed books. The way the book is written and the level of maturity in some of the scenes is definitely meant more for younger adults.
