We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a serial novel describing life in a fictional country called Voulhire. It is a 199-page book that contains the themes of magic, religion, law, and science. The story's scene is set in various places within Voulhire, ranging from the Lands of the Princes to Hillport and other places.

The story starts when Galen Bray is brought back from the Lands of the Princes to inherit the small fortune his uncle willed to him. The story focuses on the myriad of characters the story has to offer. The story has a villain named Lord Meldorath, formerly Magistrate Meldorath. He engages in forbidden magic and also forcibly takes over a city, Hillport, from a vile Lord Orlin, who engaged in child abuse. There is also King Wilhelm, who worries about the responsibilities of his throne, his ministers, Midius Maido and Indara. Another important character is Lord Eldus Alderman, who takes over Hillport and attempts to discharge his duties and take the city to a greater height. Will he succeed at it? Read this interesting book to find out.

I like the unique descriptive style that helps readers understand each character and presents reasons for their actions and thoughts. The story was initially overwhelming, but the plot comes together and makes sense as the story goes on. The author attempts to present the country as it is to the reader through the eyes of each character. It is refreshing as no character is under-presented.

It is challenging to get a favorite scene as each chapter has its specific adventure. I admire how the author weaves the story, as the chapters are aligned according to each character's point of view, so each scene presents something new to the reader. I love the scenes that provoke amusement, such as scenes featuring Lord Eldus's son, Marshus. Marshus is someone who enjoys attention no matter the cause of it. It is also lovely to see the scenes where Galen Bray tries to adjust to his new life; his scenes invoke feelings of empathy for his former difficult life in the Lands of the Princes. My favorite character is Galen Bray because he is very relatable compared to the other characters. His determination to succeed in his new life is quite beautiful to see.

Although the book is enjoyable, it has some uncomfortable depictions of child abuse. It made those scenes quite sad and depressing. The book is well-edited and well-written; for this reason, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to science fiction lovers, travelers, and linguists. Given the dark depiction of child abuse, I recommend it to an adult audience.
