Review of Wild World
Peter S. Rush's Wild World[i/] starts by transporting us back to 1970. Here we meet Steve, a Brown University student who has just learned some terrible news about how the authorities are unleashing violence on student protesters. He heads to his girlfriend's (Roxy) room and finds her and her roommates watching the news. Kent State University national guardsmen have killed four students and injured nine more. After the news spread, students throughout America come together in protest against police brutality and the misuse of power by the authorities.
Further into the narrative, Steve joins the police squad, where he feels he will greatly impact bringing about change. But his student idealism is now brought into question. Will Steve and Roxy's relationship survive the fate yet to unfold? What about the change they all want—will they succeed? To find out, pick up a copy of this book.
The book revolves around revisiting the era of the Vietnam War, which had significant effects and far-reaching ramifications; anti-war demonstrations; and Nixon's stance on the growing student desire to participate in protests. It is divided into chapters, each introducing a new plot concept that held my attention. It is peppered with relatable sentiments, heartbreaking moments (such as Roxy being disowned by her mother), and difficulties, such as when Steve must choose between love, friendship, and his desire to rebuild the ruined system.
There was nothing that I disliked about Wild World[i/].Peter S. Rush is undeniably skilled at what he does. His character development was fantastic, and you feel like you are one of the notable characters. Everyone can find their favorite characters very early in the book. When they lose, you feel sad; when they win, you cheer them on and are happy for them.
How the author combined real historical facts with well-crafted, immense fiction to come up with this piece of work was what I adored most about this book. The author employed professional editing before the publication of this book since I only came across one error. It was well carried out, with fantastic suspense that keeps you yearning for more and well-crafted sensory descriptions that will enhance your enjoyment of the action scenes.
For all the reasons mentioned above, I find no reason to deny Wild World[i/] the maximum possible rating of five out of five stars. Readers searching for a gripping, relatively fast-paced historical fiction read packed with captivating action, suspense, and a pinch of romance will enjoy this book.
