Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War, written by Dorothy May Mercer, is a gripping tale of love, crime, and joint investigation, developed through four major characters: Cynthia, who serves as Senator Mike McBride's chief of security and bodyguard; Glenn Patterson, owner of an investigative company; Dan, a police officer at Fairfax P.D.; and Sky Eastman, a shrewd, mysterious man whose identity is made known as the story unfolds. Their unique personalities are harnessed and blended to accentuate the novel's thematic preoccupations and drive the plot forward.

First, Dorothy did amazingly well in throwing in some suspenseful sparks right from the start of the story. I was curious to know what project Glenn and Cynthia were planning to execute. The doubts expressed by Glenn and the seeming herculean nature of the task ahead added fire to my curiosity, and I was glad that the word choices made in this novel were appropriate and didn't in any way interfere with this experience.

Another thing that interested me was character development. I was impressed with how the author manipulated them to score the intended points. I understand that this course of action, as seen in the encounters between Cynthia and Sky, may cast some doubt as regards the verisimilitude of certain incidents, but then those incidents can accurately be taken as "an exceptional few."

It's amazing how the author expertly navigates through the various themes addressed in this novel and still manages to feature Cynthia in them all, passing through them a uniting thread. Other minor characters like Garth, Tim, Father Flanagan, Wilma, Agatha, Marion, Susan, Dolores, and Cherry were also introduced to serve certain purposes. It was great to read about the cyberwars waged by Glenn, Garth, Tim, Cynthia, and other characters against the terrorists.

The themes explored in this novel are crucial. I read about the consequences of undefined relationships, how terrorist ideologies are formed, the strategies adopted to propagate and fund them, and the potency of the internet and advanced technology in curbing and eradicating crime, among others, and I was greatly informed. I enjoyed several other things in this novel; the exceptional editing, I must admit, helped make this possible. I didn't find any grammatical or spelling errors in this novel.

If novels with themes about technological warfare against terrorism, the vain resistance of wounded jealousy, and an unlikely yet gripping love story interest you, then I recommend you pick up this one. I rate this novel five out of five stars because I had a great moment with it. There are no negatives to point out in this novel. Therefore, I don't have any reason why I should give it a lower rating.
