Review of Grim Knights (The Grim Chronicles Book 1)
In his book Grim Knights, D.R. Martin describes a young 12-year-old wizard who embarks on a mission to save his home from impending doom. Howl is the son of Grim, the legendary hero known for his extraordinary feats on the battlefields many years before. Since then, the infamous magic man has retired to the mountains to live out his days among the creatures with whom he shares the land. Neighboring armies and ruthless dragons may threaten their livelihoods, but Howl, Grim, and the peoples of cities like Bowden and Calderaun will need to band together with allies of all different species, shapes, and sizes to keep their homes and families safe. The book also contains elements of childish, mystical fun and detail, as well as others that are gruesome and terrifying in the way that only epic fantasy can be. Grim Knights cover a lot of ground (literally) and leave no corner of the Grim world unexplored, told in alternating points of view from boy wizards to kings, sailors to soldiers, and various birds, wolves, and other wild creatures.
In terms of the book's positive aspects, I adore a good fantasy novel, and this one has it all. The author has crafted an intricate universe full of history, culture, magic, and an original take on the idea of man versus nature. You'll be kept guessing until the very end and left wanting more because of the plot's turns and twists. The author created several pictures that are scattered throughout the book and help to bring the narrative to life. It was a pleasure to read the story! This was very interesting to me because I enjoy adventure and fantasy stories. I was sucked in.
There wasn't much to dislike about this book, but I did notice that it was sometimes difficult to determine which characters and storylines were meant to be the most important to the overall story. The constant influx of new characters can make it difficult to remember which characters we've met before and which we might want to remember in the future.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because there was more to like than to dislike about it, and it was professionally edited.
I would like to recommend this book to everybody who enjoys adventure as much as I do. It appeals to adults while still being suitable for young readers. I also believe that younger readers, particularly teenagers, would likely appreciate this epic fantasy tale a lot.
