The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid by Gary Robinson is about the Duke and Gary who experience the cruelty of addiction. Duke works as a sword swallower in a circus. To be able to perform and keep his mind sane, he always drinks alcohol, but he doesn't know the consequences that comes with it. While Gary, a very intellectual person who went to another city to escape her mother's addiction. But, leaving her mother will be worst when he met people who enjoyed their lives by alcohol and drugs. These two people who have same problem will connect and change each other's life.

What I like about the book is when Duke was able to showcase the talent that few people possess. It is such a dangerous act, but I am in awe that he was able to do it, even if it seems impossible. I also loved how he appreciates the people around him. He always talks about them and even tattooed them on his body. Just like Duke, Gary is also appreciative of people. Especially, when he was able to connect with people who had special disabilities. Moreover, I liked that Gary is very well opinionated about certain things. Also, I loved how both of them were able to change each other's perspective on life and how their connection will change their lives forever.

What I don't like about the book is when it takes a lot of time for Gary to realize that an addiction to alcohol can destroy his life. Even if a lot of people are willing to help him, he always doesn't listen to them. But, other than that, I really like how the author was able to tell what he experienced to the world.

I will rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars, because it is exceptionally edited and I didn't even notice a mistake. The author was able to open the eyes of the readers about addiction, especially alcohol and drugs. Consuming these things without knowing how to stop is very dangerous to their health, especially when it comes to their mental health.

I will recommend this book to adults, since it contains graphic scenes that might not be applicable to young adults. Also, adults have an open mind about this type of genre. Moreover, this book might help people who struggle with addiction to alcohol. They might get some hope from the story of Duke and Gary
