Review of East Wind, 2nd Edition
When combined, romance and action make for a very interesting book. Jack Winnick does that wonderfully in his book, East Wind, 2nd edition. The book centers on the lives of Lara Edmund, an agent for the FBI, and Uri Levin, an Israeli agent, as they battle terrorism. Lara is from a family with a history of serving in the force. She is inspired by them and pursues a career in the FBI. She is very talented with computers and stands out because of her talent.
Walid, an agent of Hezbollah, is sent to America, where he disguises himself as a student. He learns about bombs and is tasked with making one. An explosion occurs in Los Angeles, destroying many lives and properties. Uri is being deployed to America to help with the situation. Did Walid cause the explosion? How does this affect America? To find out, grab a copy.
I like the beginning of the book; the author wasted no time and dove into the action. He gave brief but accurate background information about the characters, then let their actions complete them. I like how the author coined this fictional book from historic events; this made me research it and educate myself.
The book's themes highlight the issues we face in the world today, like terrorism, racism, and tribalism. People need to realize that we are all one, despite our tribe, religion, or race. Our differences make us unique and should unite us instead of separating us. The author's world-building is fantastic. It was realistic and very relatable. My favorite character was Lara. Despite her skillset, she was very humble and kind. She was also easy to work with. An example of this is her partnership with Uri. They fit like a glove, and their partnership was very fruitful.
I found no flaws in the book. The writing was clear and concise, making comprehension easy. I liked how the author alternated the chapters between the terrorists and the agents. It kept the reader guessing and enticed them to keep reading. I found no errors in the book, indicating it was exceptionally well edited. I happily give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
In the book, the terrorists justified their actions with their religion. I found it irritating, as no religion preaches violence. Nothing justifies the killing of innocent people for your agenda. I recommend this book to lovers of crime, action, and thrillers.
