Murder in the Garbage
by Jerry A. Greenberg

Raoul is starting his life afresh. He has a new job, a love interest, and is beginning night school. He thinks this new life is going to be great. Little does he know this is the beginning of absolute chaos. Yes, love is blossoming but on what seemed like a typical day at work, Raoul and his partner find the dead body in the garbage. At this point everything gets wild. Starting with the murder, and trailing to a corrupt system, gangs, and missing missiles, Raoul has no idea what he is in for and neither do you because at this point the story feels like it could go anywhere. At this point, we dive into Hank Boucher's story. A retired Navy Seal, now CIA agent set on solving this case.

I did enjoy reading this book. I was super invested in Linda and Raoul's story, and I feel like I didn't get enough of their love. However, the genre wasn't love stories, we had a murder in the garbage! Once I got to the point of Charles Thorton being discovered I was more deeply invested but switching perspectives after a few pages is confusing and hard to track. Especially, because it makes time move back and forth. Not having someone else's perspective is part of the mystery. Developing my own perspective is a part of the thrill. Hank also has a particularly interesting storyline and was a well-developed character, his side of the story really is a lot more well-rounded. This is where Greenberg clearly wants your focus to be. Hank has the most connections to a variety of characters and getting to have his inner narrative is imperative to understanding the text. In the midst of all of that you still get several more thoughts and perspectives of people in the story.

I do not recommend this book. The different perspectives made it hard to connect with characters that should have been more well-rounded. I lost interest in the book at times because of the overwhelming information that wasn't driving the action. At some points in the plot seemed static. Murder in the Garbage should have had more driving action to get you to the climax of the plot, but due to the static nature of parts being retold, it didn't feel as thrilling as Greenberg clearly intended for it to be. Greenberg did note that this text is "different" for him so it would be interesting to have a comparison note from other texts.

With that being said I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars, sitting in the okay/fair range. I believe it could have been more conscience and it makes me wonder if it was fully and professionally edited, even though Greenberg does shout out his editor. I did not notice any errors in the book in particular but the language is concerning. I believe the text Murder in the Garbage is directed toward a young adult audience. I also believe the trajectory of the plot would interfere with the target audience having the ability to enjoy the text. Furthermore, I would recommend Greenberg, the originality in Murder in the Garbage[i/] was so unique. Without a question, Greenberg could write an engaging text.

After carefully reading the text, I believe the thoughts are very original and the format of the text is extremely unique. As aforementioned Murder in the Garbage had some strong positive points of interest and aspects, particularly the idea for the plot. I believe if Greenberg were to write another text with this feedback, I would be more personally engaged in it.
