Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a fantasy novel set in the Voulhire kingdom that features political intrigue and superhuman abilities. Galen Bray, the protagonist of the book, tells his experiences from the first-person perspective usually; at other times, the author switches to the third-person perspective. Galen came from the Land of the Princes to Voulhire. His homeland, in contrast to Voulhire, is chaotic and unsuitable for a secure life. After his uncle passed away, Galen relocated to Voulhire. Galen was the only member of his family; thus, his wealthy smith uncle had left everything for him. In another scenario, Eldus, the current ruler of Hillport, a city in Voulhire, is putting significant effort into eradicating fear in his city and other painful actions Meldorath's predecessor had left behind. Strangely, every person Galen speaks with appears to be memoryless of the past. Although Meldorath was slain, there are rumors in Voulhire that he is still alive and may be plotting a terrible comeback.
The narrative is clear and well-written. The reader's mind is beautifully captured by the rich and colorful human descriptions and scenes. The entire book is action-packed, keeping the reader enthralled and preventing the urge to jump ahead to find out what happens next. For some light entertainment, the lines are often laced with amusing asides and snark. I was pleased by the amount of work Matthew Tysz put into this book. The novel includes a map at the beginning and a glossary explaining concepts unique to the Voulhirian cosmos at the end. Because of how accurately the author described Voulhire, I came to consider it to be a real location. My favorite character to read about was Galen. It was easy to relate to the author's description of a foreigner in a strange world.
There was nothing that I disliked about the book; it was engaging to read. It's a truly amazing book that held my interest from start to finish. I couldn't stop reading it once I got into it. I also want to point out what an excellent start this book had. Furthermore, I liked how in-depth the author went into the backstory of each individual. The wording in this book is great.
I am rating We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies 5 out of 5 stars because it was well-written, and I enjoyed it. There were no grammatical errors or mistakes in it; therefore, it was exceptionally well edited.
I would recommend this book to lovers of adventure, magic, and fiction.
