“It is never to late to start a heart-healthy diet”

“Adventure may hurt you, but monotony will kill you.”

You will find these great quotes in the book Open Heart. You will find many other intriguing quotes and so much more in this book, written by Akil Taher, MD. He shares his years of medical education training with us.

He also took us along on his road to recovery and shared all of his physical training techniques as well. I loved learning all about the various ups and downs of his health journey from open heart surgery to bicycle racing, mountain climbing and marathon running. He is given a serious wake up call at 61 years old. Does he have a heart attack or angina? You’ll have to read the book to find out. The author shares his story, to encourage others to develop a new lifestyle of healthier eating, better exercise techniques and a positive attitude.

I took lots of notes about the several good food options given for living a healthy life. In many parts of this book, he informs us about his WFPB diet. To find out what that means, you’ll have to check out those chapters. I truly was shocked when he revealed what some of the worst foods and drinks were for our bodies. I have to admit, I was kind of surprised when I read what is actually in cows milk. I learned a lot in my reading that will stay with me forever, especially the plant-based diet section. The information in this book was written in a way that was easy to read and follow. Any words or topics that he felt may need a little extra explanation, he provided right there. He also provided outside sources for further research. There are many positive takeaways that readers can learn and implement in their own lives.

I enjoyed several things while reading this book. Im very glad he shared what the four worst foods to eat are. I enjoyed how he explained what he did for his workouts. My most favorite parts of the book are when he shares each of his world trip adventures. The skill and craftsmanship of his writing, made me feel as if I was right there beside of him on each trip. I love learning about the geography, the culture, the food, and how the people in each place, responded to him and his tour group.

There was nothing I disliked least about this book. It seemed to be exceptionally and professionally edited. I found zero spelling errors. There were no grammatical errors either. I will gladly give it a four out of four stars rating for all the knowledge I have gained. This was the best book I have read on this topic. I will give it a rating of five out of five stars

I recommend this book to any adult who is looking to improve their overall health and wellbeing. I also recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with any type of heart disease. It will also be a very informative tool for nutritional, health, and exercise coaches.
