Phobia Relief is a book about overcoming irrational fear. It explains how our brain works when it responds to fear and provides the necessary skills needed to free a person from their phobia. It uses Neuro-Linguistic Programming(NLP) techniques to help people unlearn fears they were not born with and are not there to keep them safe.

I like that the book is straight to the point and does not focus on the reason you have fear but places priority on how to overcome it. Kalliope Barlis thoroughly explains how neurology works and how you can change the way your brain responds to what you fear. She not only helps with reversing the fear but also encourages one to find a purpose that will keep the fear away long term. The exercises included in the book are practical and easy to do on your own. I also liked that she included a transcript of her and one of her clients that struggled with a phobia of clowns. The conversation felt relatable and was also some of sort of guidance as to how to perform the exercise. It also provided the assurance that if it can work for the client so easily, then it can work for you too. The skills provided also help people to not have to rely on panic attack tablets or any phobia medicine. It is an educational book that helps a lot more than how therapy can with irrational fear. There is not much to say about this book except the fact that it is straightforward and result driven. It really is a freeing book for people who have been living a restricted life because of the phobias they have.

I did not like that most of the chapters felt repetitive since one thing kept being repeated multiple times throughout the chapters. Other than that, the book was well written with every aspect concerning fear explained and a solution provided.

I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. This is because it clearly guides a person on how the key to overcoming their fear is changing their mindset. It is not a long book, so it accommodates people who need the skills in this book but are not into reading lengthy books.

I recommend this book to people who struggle with any type of phobia that stops them from doing things they would love to do.
