Review of Yesterday
Find out what links two lost lovers in Yesterday by Samyann. It feels like love at first sight for Mark Callahan when a beautiful woman, Amanda Parker, saves his life from a gruesome accident. He is drawn to her and wants to pursue a relationship with her. Amanda has loved and lost people in her life. She has concluded that whoever she loves will prematurely die, and this causes her to keep Mark at arm's length. Given Mark's occupation as a police officer, she believes she would be setting herself up for another heartbreak.
There are other forces at play when it comes to these two lovers. Mark is sure he has seen Amanda before. Could it have been in his past life? And ever since she bought an antique clock with links to The Great Chicago Fire of 1871, Amanda keeps having premonitions of Mark. Mark and Amanda decide to work together and figure out the mystery behind the pull they feel toward each other.
I enjoyed reading this story. The characters have a natural feel and have the most casual conversations. Mark tells Amanda what he wants without sounding condescending. He is a lovable character with a friendly personality, and Amanda has a beautiful soul. I could feel her grief and pain. It is lovely to see the walls of her heart fall one by one.
As much as I enjoyed reading this story, I think the plot is predictable. The concept of reincarnation, previous lives, and the sense of déjà vu is not new, but the execution is what matters. Several books, movies, and television shows have similar storylines. Reincarnation and previous lives are great tropes, depending on the level of execution, and in this case, I have to attest that Samyann did an exceptional job.
Themes of reincarnation, previous lives, déjà vu, and time travel collide in Yesterday by Samyann. The story of Mark and Amanda was fast-paced and had a good flow. I liked the descriptions and differences between the modern-day and olden-day Chicago lifestyle, culture, and language. Mark is Irish and sometimes speaks Gaelic. I found this to be romantic and unique to his character. Samyann effortlessly fused the translations into the story. I did not find any spelling or grammatical errors, and it is for this reason that I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars rating.
This book is a must-read for all romantic book lovers. Yesterday has many characters that will appeal to different people; a handsome hero, a beautiful heroine, historical characters, and an adorable cat. If you love stories about reincarnation and the sense of déjà vu, this book is for you. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this book to people below the age of eighteen because it contains sex scenes and profane language.
