When Jake was young, his mother told him to never give someone the middle finger. Instead, she told him to point his finger at them and say the words, “just die.” One day, Jake wakes up in the hospital after suffering a stroke and discovers that he has the power to really kill someone if he points at them and says those words. Now that Jake has this power, he must decide how to use it. He could be an American hero, or he could become a monster. He also needs to be careful about who he can trust with this new information. If people know he has a superpower, he can become a target. His power can be used for evil if the wrong people find out.

There are a few other storylines in this novel as well. One main character is former NFL player, Omar Carter who becomes friends with Jake and his fiancée, Beth Ann. There are also two local cops named Gino and George that make a few appearances in the novel. One last main character is DC. DC is Beth Ann’s coworker and is to blame for Jake getting in trouble with local law enforcement.

Just Die is categorized as a C/T/M/H novel that has about 259 pages when reading the pdf format. It is a very quick and easy read because the chapters are so short and there is plenty of dialogue between the characters. The author did a good job of developing each of the different story lines and connecting them to each other in the first half of the book. However, in the second half of the book, the main focus was just on Jake. At the very end of the novel, the other characters were brought up again briefly to wrap up the novel, but it was underwhelming to me.

I give Just Die by E. Alan Fleischauer 4 out of 5 stars because I did enjoy reading the book. It was an easy read, and the plot was unique and interesting. I took away one star because I thought that the other characters could have been involved more and the story as a whole could have been more exciting.

I recommend this book to adults who enjoy crime and stories of American heroes. I wouldn’t recommend people under age 17 read this book because of the frequent use of strong language.
