A Dream for peace A Memoir is an autobiography of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah who spend his whole life working for manifestation and peace of Africa. born a brought up in a Muslim family of French colonized Algeria, he completed his schooling in Algeria and fled to Bordeaux in France for further studies in medicine and during that time he came across with other Algerian freedom lovers and started engaging in freedom movement. He had to flee Spain with his female companion where he have to serve prison and from where he freed by a head of Moroccan liberation army Dr. El Khatib to morocco. During Moroccan time he served as a doctor and worked secretly for both countries finally he got an American scholarship while he was living with his wife and studying law. In new world he chose microbiology as his working subject and researched while getting his PhD in the subject under Dr. Konetzka and giving first hypothesis about reverse transcriptase enzyme. After these accomplishments he felt that peace of Africa called him so he came back to his wife’s country Côte d’Ivoire under President Houphouët Boigny. He took him as his son and made him his personal advisor. Here in his life, started the chapter of diplomacy in which he accomplished many accomplishments like getting better relations of Abidjan and Algiers, communal harmony in Côte d’Ivoire, neutralizing effects of cold war and a dialogue between Israel and Palestine. He spent his retirement in America working for humanity.

As his life was full of events the author still kept them arranged in sequence, so there is not any confusion understanding them. The most beautiful part of which is the story of union of his third wife and love of his life, who accompanied him till his last breath. He described everything in words that can give life to imagination and the collected pictures gave colors to those imagination. The editing is so good that you can’t tell it is not professionally edited.

As the story continues French and Arabic words breaks the flow, especially for those who are completely ignorant about these two languages; but it is difficult to find alternatives for every word so it is understandable.

I’m going to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because a life story this meaningful and that deep is amazingly bound in words. I recommend this book to the ones who likes autobiographies of self developed people, who likes to know the history of African countries and who have deep faith in any religion.
