Cynthia and Dan : Cyber War is a book filled with suspense and romance. It is focuses on our protagonist Cynthia Patterson, her immersion in the security of her country and her misadventures in romance which involves her boyfriend of a few years Dan McIntyre, their seemingly failing relationship and the one-night stand with the charismatic Sky Eastman which might lead to a pregnancy.

Cynthia Patterson is the Chief of Security for a senator McBride and is greatly entrenched in the weeding out of the online terrorists with the help of her brother Glenn Patterson who is a private investigator. Cynthia is unsure of who to trust once the first drone reaches the White House. Is she to place her trust in the 3-year relationship that is falling apart at the seams or the newly budding romance with a character that seems to know of of her secrets but remains shrouded in mystery? Read or listen to discover.

Cynthia and Dan : Cyber War is quite light-hearted despite the heavy and controversial topics like terrorism, abortion and infidelity being discussed. It comes off as a cross between comedy, suspense and romance. The online war for peace is quite intriguing and entertaining and Cynthia’s love life is a cause for both laughter and ridicule. Overall it is nicely written.

The one thing I did not like was the lack of depth to the characters. Most of their decisions were arbitrary and uncalled for making the book less realistic and less inclined to fully immerse both readers and listeners alike. There is mention of unprotected sex, religion and use of plan-b pills which might be offensive to some people but otherwise there is really not much I can criticize.

Dorothy May Mercer wrote a very interesting story but the narrator Scott Ellis is who actually brought the book to life with his skillful intonation and very adept way of narrating. He showed difference in each character voiced making sure to display as much emotion as possible. I listened the audio version of the book and I greatly enjoyed it. There was no error heard but I can not guarantee skillful editing for the book.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars, reason being that despite the skillful writing the book just did not have as much depth and plot line as I would have loved. I recommend it to people looking to relax, or those searching for a light-hearted read.
