Bluewater Walkabout by Tina Dreffin is a collection of journeys from a life well lived. The book had themes of relationships, love, family, adventures, sailing, and outstanding trips.

This book is a fascinating tale of a family that went to South Africa to purchase a large catamaran. The author wrote in great detail about her upbringing and struggles. She also described her family's great life of cruising in the Bahamas and raising their two boys on board. After they arrived in Africa, the entire family embarked on an African safari that included several encounters with wild animals. She gave readers the knowledge that if you are passionate about something and pursue it tenaciously to the very end, you will find peace.

This book had a lot of wonderful attributes present, which I loved. The author's exceptional capacity for providing illustrative details came first. She gave a detailed and colorful account of the various locations they visited, capturing their adventurous attitude. She managed to mix the trip event with just the right amount of reflection, philosophy, and parenting contemplation. I adored the brief quotations that were included at the start of each chapter, as well as the photographs and maps that were included. Each tale focused on a particular sea species or setting. A few family details were sprinkled throughout those relatable stories. Dreffin did a good job of including her family in the work and transforming it from a simple travel journal into narratives about her personal and family life. However, her family was merely a set of witnesses rather than the main characters. In this memoir, she demonstrated that in addition to having the fortitude to overcome obstacles in the physical, medical, and environmental realms, she was also capable of being humble and open to vulnerability at the same time. She was fearless in uncovering private areas of her life, which I found admirable and courageous. In the end, she demonstrated an optimistic approach that most people aspire to have but rarely manage.

There was nothing present in the book that displeased me except the fact that I encountered numerous errors, and this greatly affected my overall appreciation of the book. Because of this, I'll be rating it 3 out of 4 stars.

I'll recommend this book to readers who cherish books encompassing travel, challenges, adventures, or family life stories. The content isn't overwhelming, but I'll bring to the attention of readers that this book contains themes of abuse, racism, and violence.
