In Nightlord: Sunset by Garon Whited, Eric is a man going through a rough breakup. But once he has a one-night-stand that gave him the "illness" of vampirism, he must delve into this new world to keep himself alive. Filled to the brim with its own lore about vampires and their enemies, this is a novel that is hard to put down.

At the heart of this novel is a revenge plot tinged with the love of learning. But the broader story is that of a found family, willing to do anything so they can stay together. All plotlines were woven together so the story morphed beautifully between each one.

I absolutely love that instead of chapters, Garon Whited has our narrator, Eric, write in diary entries. This gives it a more personal feel as readers become immersed in the interesting world of vampires at the same time as Eric. The entries vary in length just as real diary entries would, and bring across emotions that I don't believe would be as impactful without them. This also gives a timeline for the story which I absolutely love. And the passing time felt true to the events of the story- traveling took weeks, while battles were a few days. I didn't have to try and figure out how long each plot point took.

However, there were moments when those same diary entries dragged on. And I attribute that to the realistic nature the author tries to convey throughout the novel. There were also a multitude of plots happening that I sometimes lost track of what was happening. Due to this, I do almost wish that this was split into two novels as opposed to one long novel.

But ultimately I was very intrigued with the story within these pages. The world building is immensely creative and immersive. Each character is well thought out and seemed to reach right through the pages to bring me into their world. I will admit that I was hesitant about our main man Eric, but he grew on me as his story went on, as did most of the characters.

Overall, this is a very interesting story and I cannot wait to read what happens next. This is a wonderful novel for those that love supernatural books with in depth lore. There were not any typos, allowing for easy reading. I rate this book four out of four stars.

Eric’s journey is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
