Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless by Mitzi Perdue is a wonderfully written biography of the world-renown co-author of the ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ series. The book outlines the life of Mark Victor Hansen, who is a relentless, determined and philanthropic person. When he was nine years old, he managed to sell thousands of greeting cards and earn enough money to buy a brand-new bike. This was the beginning of a life journey filled with failures and successes outlined by a strong-willed determination to achieve in life whatever his mind was set on.

As the book delves into Mark Victor Hansen’s teenage years and early college experiences, we get a glimpse into Mark’s psychology of being able to do anything you dream of, as long as you have a strong desire and ambition to achieve it. It also strongly outlines that obtaining knowledge through reading, and getting inspiration from teachers and lecturers is a sure way of becoming successful in life.

We also learn from Mark’s personal experiences the critical value of forging long-lasting friendships, always valuing people, and willingly supporting them whenever possible. The biography also brings attention to the ultimate fact that having faith in God is quite important in leading a successful and productive life. We are taken through Mark’s failed first marriage, and the devotion and dedication that he put in to find his true soul mate, and ensure she is always valued and involved in his various ventures in life.

The enjoyable part of this inspiring book is the “Learn from Mark” section at the end of each chapter. Mitzi Perdue summarizes the important lessons that the reader can typically learn from Mark Victor Hansen’s challenges in life, and how he overcomes them. These are sometimes accompanied by quotes from Mark himself.

The most positive aspect of this book is the remarkable fact that the author herself is involved in one of Mark Victor Hansen’s philanthropic activities. Via a website link, readers are invited to go to their local American Red Cross Blood Bank to donate blood, and the Red Cross will be tracking all the generous donations that come about because of this book.

The book has a few grammatical and punctuation errors, which could have been rectified had it been edited well, although, they do not affect its general legibility. Therefore, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.

Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless is most suitable for an audience who are longtime fans of the ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ series. It is also an interesting and generally motivational read for anyone, who may naturally feel that obtaining success in life is invariably a major obstacle.
