A Dream for Peace is a book written by Dr Ghoulem Berrah and it's written in seventeen chapters. This book literally unfolded the basic aspects of life which are racism and justice.

Dr Ghoulem Berrah was born in Ain Beida and he's the only son of his parents. He came from a very strong family. The world would have been a better place for him if Fifi, Nissan, Yasmina, Hassan and Hussein (the twins), his six late siblings from his mother's family were with him. Hassan died at birth while Hussein died at the age of seven after their father kicked the bucket and Dr Ghoulem Berrah was just 3. In their tribal tradition, it was customary for women to pierce the ear of their surviving son after losing multiple boys at young age of which his mother did. His Father is Hamadi Berrah and while he was alive, he lived to hunt. He was also a proud Saighi tribesman and also a Jeweler. His mother is from La Meskiana in the easternmost part of Algeria. She's a very lovely woman and her love for education is really an undisputable one.
Many things happened during his parents time. Those days, marriages were looked upon as transactions to establish alliances among families. It was customary in Muslim tradition for the girl to practice abstinence which would be affirmed on the night of the wedding. Their bargaining process was also a dignified one. "The shepherd accepts the offer and the bidder moves along to continue shopping for other wares elsewhere at the market. When a second customer approaches the shepherd and inquires about pricing for the same sheep, he is told that an offer has been made and accepted.
Whenever there was a tribal dispute, the market was always closed as some led to the killing of people and unnecessary violence but peace was always restored thereby creating honor and unity among the folks. Everyone helped each other and they lived in harmony as one big family. The situation was not the same when the Government of France annexed his country as part of french mainland. As the book progresses, he felt disheartened after he decided to leave his native Algeria to study in france in order to liberate his country from the french colonial rule. While he was there, he was subjected to pains, suffering and discrimination from different people on campus. On several occasions, his contributions on what would help liberate the future of the independent Algeria were rejected and outvoted. All these got him tapped that he was an obvious target so he chose to leave the country. His passionate activism also led him to intense abuse and harassment by the police and he kept on running from one police to another. He felt like his entire world was shattered. Infact, it was indeed a pitiful one.
This book got me thrilled when Dr Ghoulem Berrah met Antoinette who was the daughter of one Dr. Salmon, a physician to a french Government. She was a political activist too and was under surveillance. As time went by, she became his companion in the prison and their relationship blossomed into a romantic one.
When he left prison, he met with the ALN (Armee de liberation Nationals) that represented Algeria's military wing in their fight against french occupation. He took up arms with the resistance in Morocco to help liberate his country but cases of illnesses were severe there. He made several discoveries as to what would cure their illnesses thereby leading him into becoming a scientist. He received teaching offers from many prestigious universities like columbia, university of California in Los Angeles and so on, where he was given the name "Cote d'ivoire's Algerian" by some Algerian diplomats.
Look out for " A Dream for Peace " by Dr Ghoulem Berrah and see if Dr Ghoulem Berrah later became successful on his journey to help Algeria gain their freedom and if he ended up with Antoinette or someone else.

Dr Ghoulem Berrah's " A Dream for Peace" is an intense book filled with patience, hunger for peace, trust in God etc. Despite Dr Ghoulem Berrah's failures, he never gave up and kept on invoking the power of God in his life. He was just an individual who had so much compassion to do what was best to achieve peace. His character in this book teaches us that no one comes to God and goes back the same. I have no idea about the reason why he wrote the book but I believe he wrote it for a particular purpose and I like every single bit of it. I like that the major places in this book was specialized in racism especially the line he said "the beauty of his creation resides in the diversity of human beings whose skin colors are akin to a palette ranging from milky white to Ebony black". He meant that everyone is equal in the eyes of God irrespective of the color, whether black or white. The way he used his life story to illustrate that we should always be strong to bear and stand strong when we are faced with life's temptations was what I liked. Just as Nana Yalley would say "the longer one struggles with something, the more we come to cherish it in the long run".

I have just few issues with this book, one of which is that the french terminologies used weren't explained in English because not all readers are familiar with french languages. This made me not to understand some parts of the book but I was still able to get the whole information. Also, the book was massive and contained some annoying pages.

I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars . This is because it's really a life lesson that life is all about struggle and the faster one learns the formula, he or she would keep pushing and would never give up. The issues mentioned above did not retract me from enjoying the book.

I would recommend Dr Ghoulem Berrah's "A Dream for Peace" to lovers of politics, french erudites, seekers of justice and those yearning for peace. This is because of the genuine messages it has that should be imitated. The book was professionally edited and I found no errors in it. It does not contain sexual scenes but few violent scenes. The languages used were pure and had no form of profanity in it.
