Review of Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless
Mark Victor Hansen, Relentless by Mitzi Perdue is short biography detailing the ups and downs of Mark Victor Hansen, one of the creators of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Each chapter includes a glimpse into the past of the famous author with morals to each story and lessons for success. Like all humans, Mark has had his failures and Mitzi Perdue does not shy away from exposing them. Luckily for him, he is still portrayed in a very bright light, as his wins drastically outnumber his losses.
The book is meant to be an inspirational piece, nudging the reader toward dreaming a similar life for themselves. The writing is extremely direct; the author frames Mark as the pinnacle of hard work and tells you why you should not only admire him but learn from him. Whether or not you have read the subject of this biography’s novels or heard one of his motivational speeches, you can relate to many themes presented in the text.
I found the context itself and timeline of Mark and his decisions interesting as I enjoy and appreciate the privilege of gaining wisdom from others’ mistakes and journeys. However, the structure of the chapters made me roll my eyes. I think the initial storytelling was sufficient for readers to take away the obvious lessons. But, at the end of each chapter, an additional paragraph summarized what was just stated and over-explained what to “Learn From Mark.” I found this unnecessary and rather annoying.
Other than that pet peeve, the book was well written. I found minimal formatting errors and the information was presented in a way that allows readers of all ages and interests to follow along. Mark Victor Hansen’s life is impressive and spreads some sunshine on the average joe. Many of his successes came later in life and all of them emerged thanks to hard work. The lessons are good ones, and perfect for anyone needing some inspiration. Personally, having learned the power of our attitude and how we speak to ourselves and manifest success was enough reason to have read and enjoyed this book.
I recommend this biography by Mitzi Perdue to anyone looking for a role model in the sales world. Mark Victor Hansen is clearly presented as one who has achieved the “American dream.” You do not even need to be familiar with his work to understand his impact, as the author does not miss a beat in this recording of Mr. Hansen’s life. Despite the slight cheesiness, I was truly motivated to practice manifesting my own desires and therefore rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
