Review of The New Eugenics
The New Eugenics: Modifying Biological Life In The Twenty-First Century by Conrad B. Quintyn Ph.D. is a non-fictional biological book. The book is more like an academic research manual, so its best to start with the authors definition of New Eugenics for the readers to best comprehend the book. Therefore, its applying the following technique's to improve the Human health, Ecology and safely manipulation of D.N.A (including animals and plants) for health and enhancement by means of Gene Therapy, Induced pluripotent stem cells, Cloning, Xenobiology, in Vivo and Ex Vivo Genetic Editing to cure genetic illnesses, Genetic Editing applied to assisted techniques as Vitro Fertilization and Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis and Genetic Editing used to increase or Drive Genes.
However, the New Eugenics mainly involves modifying Non-Humans to benefit Homo Sapiens(humans). This is why Ecology is part of the definition. As it further goes to explain more on the CRIPR system, Crossing Rubicon, Synthetic Biology, Biotechnology, Neno medicine. Scientists argue that if the benefits outweigh the risks ,then all the biological experiments in the New Eugenics are worth undertaking. And also not to forget about the possibility for humans to have a choice on having to choose how their babies would look like which is called designer babies or selected babies. All these explained above put together comes up on the edge of the New Eugenics: Modifying Biological Life In the Twenty-First Century.
The best of the New Eugenics is the ability for Biological Scientist to root out defective genes in Humans, which is the main objective, and be able to cure diseases such as Sickle Cell Anemia. Biotechnology is great for Human kind as Scientists are able to repair damaged cells and tissues, curing diseases, improving and protecting Dietary Agricultural products like Corn and Soya Beans from insects and adverse climate for the benefit of man kind.
In as much as we benefit from the New Eugenics by Scientists using Biotechnologies for out Dietary Agricultural products, there are questions that needs to be answered like; what are the long term effects of genetically modified crops on Human heath? will introduced genes in crops spread with world relatives imparting bio-diversity? These questions are unanswered right now and its a major problem observed by author. Same applies to Non-Humans being modified as there should be laws in place to protect them because Scientist go to the extreme's ,becomes so obsessed so unethical sometimes just for fortune and fame.
The New Eugenics: Modifying Biological Life In The Twenty-First Century, by Conrad B. Quintyn was professionally edited as I wouldn't spot any typos. However, I rate this book 2 out of 4 Stars.I rate it as a two because it was so difficulty book to read and understand because of the medical jargons as while as biological terms, especially chapter 4 to chapter 15.The book is more like a medical research manual not a non-fictional novel.
I therefore recommend it mainly to those people trying to pursue, or want a career in the field of medicine like biological Science and medical Research.
