The book, I Know My Way Memoir by Theresa Marafito with Linda Odubayo Thompson, portrays the life of Theresa Marafito, who was suffering from Nystagmus. It explains how she dealt with the challenges she faced as a visually impaired person. Theresa was born in New York in 1933.

Theresa’s daughter, Linda is the co-author of this book who wanted to show the world how her mother faced the challenges and overcame her struggles. Theresa did not let her disability take over her life. This book also contains the pictures of Theresa’s precious moments with her family. The book is narrated in a first person perspective. It is an inspirational one.

Theresa was fondly called Terry. She meets her soulmate Jerry at college and gets married to him. Jerry, on the other hand, can't see out of his side eyes. This is called telescopic vision. Terry and Jerry have 2 beautiful daughters, Linda and Nance.

Terry was quite upset when she got to know that she was pregnant. She was scared that her dreams regarding her future would become just a fantasy. She had a hard time during her pregnancy. She gave birth to her lovely daughter when she suffered severe bleeding during childbirth. Right after her daughter Linda’s first birthday, they found out that something wasn’t right with her eyes. She was diagnosed with congenital cataracts in both eyes. Despite their difficulties, they manage hard to lead a beautiful family and take care of them.

Theresa was so devastated when she realized that Jerry was no longer alive. After the death of her beloved husband Jerry, Theresa wanted to record her life events and share it with the world. And that is how Linda gave life to this book. The pictures gave even more life to the book. This book paved the way for people to understand the life of visually impaired people and the odds they face in their daily lives. It was good to know about the challenges faced by the blind community.

This book taught me that life is not a bed of roses and we have to figure a way out of the misery that we undergo. Theresa did not blame her disability. She overcame all the struggles to take care of her family. I also enjoyed the sense of humor that was expressed in this book.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is written in an exemplary manner with no errors in spelling. There’s no use of profanity and is well edited. This book is recommended for people who enjoy reading memoirs and motivational books.
