Review of The First Time Father
Becoming a parent is not an easy task especially if it is for the first time. There are steps and actions to take, lessons to learn and experiences to prepare you for the role.
The First Time Father by Thomas Alfie is a nonfictional book guiding not only the first time dads but also parents in the journey of parenthood. He starts by giving insight into his experience as a new dad and goes on to explain in detail the lessons he learned from it.Most at times, we tend to focus our attention on only the female because she's the one carrying the baby in her womb but by doing so, we ignore the challenges the male partner might also be having due to this new development.
Thomas goes on to explain how the baby is formed month by month, symptoms of pregnancy that might also be experienced by the male partner, behavioural changes and its effect on both couples and ends by giving pointers on how to cope with each arising challenge.
I like that the book sheds light on the part of parenthood that most people have ignored for so long.Focusing on the mother of the child alone must not be our only concern because it takes two to tango. We all expect the male figures to be strong at all times, supporting and guiding their female partners without getting anything in return or being given a chance to voice out their opinions or troubles.I like how the book points out the troubles the male partner might also face during the journey of welcoming the little one and offering a solution on how to help them out of their confusion and frustration.I also like that the author not only talked about the challenges the father might face during the journey with his female partner but also gave pointers on how the new dad can take care of the new infant and actively participate in his life.
There was nothing I disliked in the book and found no negative points on it.
I spotted no errors or typos in the book except a few profane words.Nevertheless, I am glad to rate it 4 out of 4 stars. It was exceptionally well edited and the editorial work was impressive.
I recommend this book to a couple who are new to the journey of childbirth. It is a must read for not only new dads but also men in general who are yet to get married or have a child.Following the guidelines written in the book will make the journey of welcoming a child so much easier and much more memorable.Couples who are also not new to parenthood would find the book useful and informative.
