Killing Abel by M. Tieman is a fictional novel interpreting the historical events in the Bible based on the book of Genesis, which means the beginning. The story gave a foundation for human life, how it all began and the consequences that followed even up to the present day. The events range from Adam’s time to Noah and the ark. Adam disobeyed God and was kicked out of the Garden of Eden and started to live on earth.

The killing of Abel shows that the role of a father is not an easy one. Adam, the father of Cain, is not sure of what his doing when it comes to fatherhood and being the head of the family and does not know how to react to events happening in his life. But God, on the other hand, is a very loving father, and He masters the important and difficult job without exception. From Adam and Eve sinning in the garden to Cain’s behavior, led God to regret creating mankind and decided to end the world, leading to Noah’s Ark. Noah was saved because of obedience to God’s word.

I liked the story and how the author added some twists from the Bible version. The book really tied all the events together, from Adam to Noah. Showing us that everything happens for a reason and that all the events that take place in our lives are interlinked somehow. The foundation of how it all began and how sin entered into man through Cain is a strong foundation for all men to know. The book was well researched with a lot of supporting evidence from the Bible.

Though the book was well researched, however, I did not like how unfathomable the author described God. God is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscience full stop. There is nothing really not to understand about God. The descriptions of the characters are a bit much even for a fictional novel. Maybe because I know the Bible and those characters well. They became monotonous to read and kind of took away the flow of the story.

The book is well written and well researched. It does not contain any spelling or grammatical errors. It also does not contain any profane language or sexual scenes. Because I really liked the story line, I give the book a 3 stars out of 4 . It would have scored a four out of four if it wasn’t for the lengthy character descriptions.
