Did You Know? by Ashok Bhaskaran is a children's book that lays out the origins of inventions we all enjoy today. It is told from the perspective of a 9-year-old boy, Jason. He compares his activities in the present to how they were done in the past. His activities span from transportation and communications to using electricity.

The aspect I liked most about this book is that it is educational. It's easy for a kid to connect something simple they do, like using a tablet, to how tablets were first used. Reading this book will show them how riding an airplane wasn't as standard in the past as traveling by ship was. It also shows how far civilization has come with technological advances.

The aspect I liked the least about this book was the flow. The subject matter seemed to change abruptly, and I felt that I had missed transitions while reading. There appeared to be a pattern, but it wasn't consistent throughout the entire book. There were also some sentence fragments and punctuation errors which, in a children's book, should not exist. Also, the end of the book seemed random. It went from comparing Jason's experiences to the history of the experiences and then segued off to talk about pollution and the environment for the last couple of pages. It didn't seem to relate to the theme of the book.

The audience for this book is children. It is equally suitable for boys or girls and would be educational for both younger and older children. It provides historical facts throughout the story with an environmental message at the end. Children will realize that things we see as typical today weren't always that way. Hopefully, it will spark curiosity to question the origins of everyday life.

I would rate this book a 2 out of 4 stars. I like the idea of this book and the information it is sharing, but it needs some editing and a consistent flow. It is essential for the books that educate children to be held to the highest standards. I would recommend this book only after it has undergone some editing.
