According to the biblical story of creation,  Cain and Abel were the first brothers in history. But if so, what is it that could lead one of them to kill the other? In Killing Abel by Michael Tieman, the story is given context. Although the story has been told an infinite number of times, Michael Tieman narrates it with more context and depth. He explores the intricacies of the creation theory, and he gives life to various other characters. The story begins with the first day of creation with the story of Noah and his ark. It follows the lives of various men of faith and explores their choices. The story is told in prose.

What I loved about Killing Abel was the way the stories were told. Every story had an element of imagination behind it. All the stories were contextualized in their environment. While the biblical theory of creation provides the minimum amount of details, Killing Abel uses imagination to fill in the gaps that are left in between. I also loved the fact that every character was complex in the story. Eve, for example, came out as a kind and loving soul. Abel was smart and loyal while Cain turned out to be vindictive and egoistic. All these characters were easy to relate to because they were believable. The characters could also be dynamic and flawed. I also loved the setting of the story. Reading Killing Abel felt like going on a tour of the garden of Eden. All the settings were vividly described. I also loved the language that was used to tell the story. All  the stories were written in prose. The language was almost poetic and the plot was flawlessly executed.

There was nothing to dislike about this story because everything was exemplary.  From the characterization1 to the plot to the language, this story was very enjoyable. Every single character was well-developed in the story. Even the minor characters in the book felt real and relatable. The stories were told from the same perspective as the bible, but with a new twist. The grammatical errors in this book were minimal.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because I loved the characterization and the plot. I also loved the way that different themes were brought out in the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading historical fiction. Furthermore, I also believe that this book would appeal to fans of theology stories and fantasy because it had elements of both genres.
